<Eijsden-Maastricht- Eben-Emael -Eijsden 🚴‍♂️ 25 km>

For some unknown reason today’s tour turned out 10 km short. No matter, very nice tour, good coffee in Maastricht, steep bit at Eben-Emael, quite a few bridges and a ferry, two different provinces of Limburg, one of which even threw a language change at us.

As I forgot to pack the camera, you have to believe me, it was beautiful.

Yesterday

<Thorn-Swartbroek-Thorn 🚴‍♂️ 35 km>

Very nice rural tour, nice cafes on the route, almost no traffic, and back well before the thunderstorms

A serene natural landscape features a small river winding through lush green vegetation and trees under a cloudy sky.

Dramatic dark clouds fill the sky, partially illuminated by soft, diffused sunlight

Today

<Thorn-Montfort-Roermond-Thorn 🚴‍♂️46 km>

Beautiful weather, first real sun of the week. Quite hilly in Limburg. At the end we had to go into Roermond for a coffee as we didn’t pass anything on the way.

Even the Kasteel Monfort was closed.

Yesterday

<Thorn-Stevensweert-Maaseik-Thorn 🚴‍♂️41 km>

Nice ride, K2 came along, she did Cologne-Erkelenz by train and then 40 km by bike to here.

The trip to Maaseik involved a ferry ride across the Maas from Limburg to Limburg (Belgium), no clue were we crossed back to .nl

A rusted manhole cover labeled Vestingstad Stevensweert is set into a cobblestone surface.

A winding dirt path bordered by green fields and trees leads towards a distant house under an overcast sky.

Because it was supposed to rain the whole day took the car to the city of Tongeren in Belgium. Tongeren is another Roman city and about 2000+ years old.

Quite a nice town as it turns out.

A tall, ornate church tower stands prominently in a square, surrounded by a few people, tents, and signs under a partly cloudy sky.

A Gothic-style cathedral with an ornate facade and towering spire stands amidst adjacent buildings under a cloudy sky, with a flag visible on the right.

A concrete surface displays the engraved text 1985 TONGEREN 2000 with greenery in the background.

Yesterday we visited Roermond for the first time, that is, outside the Outlet Center.

On the way there, the weather was fine, on the way back we sampled some nice Limburgish rain?

The landscape reminded us of home, but of course the better cycling infrastructure gave it away.

The classicist buildings are a remnant of the Prussian time. After the congress of Vienna the duchy of Westphalia (together with the Rhineland) went to Prussia.

A narrow cobblestone street winds through a quaint town with historical buildings and a prominent church tower featuring a clock.

A misty, overcast view of a town features traditional houses and a church with a distinctive spire, surrounded by a hilly landscape.

Kleinschnittger F 125

The vehicle was built in #Arnsberg between 1950 and 1957 in a quantity of just under 3,000 units. It had a 1-cylinder two-stroke engine and weighed 150 kg. The “F” stood for front-wheel drive, the “125” for the cubic capacity. With 6 hp, the #Kleinschnittger reached a top speed of 60 km/h. The vehicle was lifted and turned for turning.

Such a glorious day. The contrast between sun and shadow was stark. Snow mostly gone, but the pistes and toboggan run were active and full, as were the parking lots with Dutch and German cars.
